About this coffee

This Grade 1 natural coffee is produced by approximately 650 smallholder farmers in the Gotiti Kebele of Kochere district, one of the most renowned coffee-growing areas within Ethiopia's celebrated Yirgacheffe region. Grown at elevations reaching up to 2,200 meters above sea level, the coffee benefits from fertile soils, consistent rainfall, and generations of farming knowledge that have established Yirgacheffe as one of the world's most respected coffee origins.

Farmers cultivate indigenous Ethiopian heirloom varieties beneath a canopy of native shade trees before delivering carefully selected ripe cherries to the Banko Gotiti wet mill, managed by Alemu Bukato. There, the cherries are carefully sorted and dried whole on raised African beds for 12 to 15 days. Throughout drying, the coffee is regularly turned to promote even moisture loss, covered during the hottest part of the day to prevent sun damage, and protected overnight from rainfall and excess moisture.

After drying, the coffee is milled, graded, and carefully hand-sorted before being prepared for export. The meticulous processing at Banko Gotiti results in a remarkably clean and expressive natural coffee, balancing vibrant fruit character with layered sweetness and exceptional complexity.
