About this coffee
Ruli is the founding and flagship washing station of the Dukunde Kawa Musasa cooperative in Gakenke district, Rwanda, established in 2004 and perched at 2,100 meters with sweeping views over the valleys below. The station sources Arabica cherries from over 800 smallholder farmers whose plots range from 1,800 to 2,100 meters, with a harvest season running from March through October. From cherry to green bean, traceability and precision define every step: farmers deliver ripe cherries within eight hours of harvest, each lot is tagged and graded before processing, and drying on raised beds continues for 14–21 days until moisture reaches exactly 11%. The fully washed process includes a mechanical mucilage remover to reduce fermentation time, a 12-hour dry fermentation, high-pressure washing, and multi-stage milling — resulting in a clean, consistent cup that reflects both the altitude of Gakenke and the cooperative's long-standing commitment to quality.
