About this coffee

Bahtera Cooperative is a producer of Gayo Arabica coffee in Aceh Province, Indonesia. Founded in 2018, the cooperative works with more than 2,000 smallholder farmers across 20 villages in the Bener Meriah district. Its members cultivate approximately 1,700 hectares of coffee, with the cooperative producing an average of 75 containers annually. Operating throughout the Bener Meriah and Takengon regions, Bahtera works closely with smallholder farmers, including many women producers, to produce high-quality Gayo Arabica coffee.

This coffee is processed using Indonesia's traditional Giling Basah (wet-hulled) method. After the coffee is depulped and partially dried, the parchment is removed while the beans still have a relatively high moisture content before completing the final drying stage. This distinctive process is unique to Indonesia and has been used throughout Sumatra for generations.
